When coaching youth baseball, you often end up with a bunch of boys who may not know each other. Team building is very important to ensure a cohesive team, one where the players support each other rather than compete with each other.
Games can be fun, but they do nothing towards the goal of developing the teams ability to communicate better and work better together. Team Bonding Singapore like bowling and go-carting are enjoyable and can even help the team to have more camaraderie among them. But, it doesn’t do anything to develop skills. Which is why it is easily forgotten and has a low return on investment?
I also see that many parents keep changing the Team building activities every year or worse still every term. By doing this you are actually unknowingly teaching your child to give up. Give the child and the activity some time. Let he or she develop interest in it and establish himself in it. After giving it some consistent time if you still find that your child is not enjoying the activity then alone change it.
We put a lot of value in keeping our family scrapbooks. We had a separate scrapbook for each child and one for the family (we also had a scrapbook that was reserved for our family history: genealogy research). This may seem like “over kill” to some, but now that our children are grown, those scrapbooks are priceless to them. As each child left home, they took their individual scrapbook with them. We kept the “family” scrapbook and it stays on our living room coffee table as a proud reminder of our children’s lives from birth to present. We are still adding pages: GRANDCHILDREN!
Take care of emergencies – If your team building event is going to be an outdoor event, make sure you have a sufficient supplies in the first aid box. It’s also a great idea to engage a doctor on call for the days of the event. In case you intend to do adventurous sports, hire an expert to guide and take them through the experience. Keep the adventure level basic.
Picnic: Although this may not be “free” it is very in expensive and can pay off big. When you plan a monthly or bi monthly activity, off work hours, you will notice a big difference in staff moral. This picnic or day at the park can be a “pot luck” meaning everyone brings something, making it cost-effective. There is no time off work or space to book when you use this method. Families of team members are also invited, making it more of a social gathering.
Of course, the are options at just about every point on that wide-ranging scale. Those that are in the middle of the scale offer a neat mix of engrossing challenge sprinkled heavily with guaranteed belly laughter generating moments.
Team building away days should be fun. Team members should look forwards to them, but they should also be aware that there is a serious purpose behind all the fun activities. With this clearly understood, team building away days can be highly successful events.
